FAQs
If your question isn't listed below, please feel free to contact me for more information!
What happens during a treatment?
At your first session we will talk about your health, lifestyle and what you expect to get out of your treatment. All information obtained is completely private and confidential.
I will focus on reflexes linked to any health concerns you have but I will also work on all body systems to detect any imbalances and devise a treatment plan unique to you.
You will lie down on a fully adjustable massage couch, with cushions to support you while your feet are gently cleaned. I will start the treatment with some relaxation techniques followed by the application of gentle finger and thumb pressure, working on one foot at a time. Then, it is time for you to relax!
Some people like to talk throughout the session, others like to completely switch off. I am happy to be guided by you! Some people fall asleep during treatments, just go with what your body is telling you.

What do I have to wear?
It is best to wear loose, comfortable clothing to the session. If you are wearing trousers try to make sure you can pull them up towards the knees so that I have access to your calves. Shoes and socks will need to be removed before the treatment.
I always make sure my treatment area is nice and warm but extra blankets are available to keep you cosy while you are lying down.
Is it painful?
Reflexology is a very gentle and relaxing therapy and is usually not painful. You may feel slight tenderness in reflexes that are out of balance. These reflexes may relate to areas where you hold a lot of physical or emotional tension or areas where you have an existing condition. Working on these imbalances helps aid your body's own detoxification process until homeostasis (balance) is restored.
When is reflexology not recommended?
While reflexology is an extremely safe healing practice, it is important to be aware of situations when is is not suitable. These contraindications include:

· Acute undiagnosed pain
· Contagious or notifiable diseases
· Deep-vein thrombosis (DVT)
· Diarrhoea, vomiting or fever
· Unhealed Fractures
· Gangrene
· Haemorrhage
· Organ transplants
· Unstable heart conditions

In some cases, if you have a condition that is already being treated by a medical doctor or complementary practitioner, it is important to gain their consent in order to receive a reflexology treatment (for example Cancer, Diabetes, Heart and Cardiovascular diseases). If you unsure, please get in touch.

Are there any side effects?
You should leave the treatment room feeling deeply relaxed. Some people might find they feel thirsty, have increased bowel movements, feel tingly, energetic or emotional. These are normal reactions and part of the healing process. Symptoms shouldn't last longer than 24 hours. Drinking plenty of water after your treatment will help this process. Most people report in increase in calmness and a deep sleep following treatments.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies from person to person, but typically a weekly or fortnightly treatment is recommended for those with active conditions or illnesses, while a treatment every 1-2 months is sufficient if you are looking to maintain overall wellness.
Reflexology has a cumulative effect so the more you have, the greater the benefits!
Together we can develop a treatment plan with measurable goals, tailored to your individual needs.
Is there anything I need to know before my treatment?
In the interests of hygiene, please make sure you have cleaned your feet before arrival. If you are not a big fan of your feet, please do not worry - I have seen many different types and you will not be judged!

Did you know?
One-quarter of all the bones in your body are in your feet. If these bones are out of alignment, then the rest of your body will be too.
